While both meters contain the same hardware the key difference in selection is the location and accessibility of the plumbing as well as the stage of development. If you are building a new development then a Wall meter would be a better option especially if you can specify the plumbing.

If not and you have to work with existing infrastructure then a yard mount might be your only option.

PPU23YRD: Yard Meter

The WMD is capable of controlling the flow of water to a domestic or small commercial consumers at full pressure. The WMD is a STS Prepayment device. The MIU is a keypad with LCD display. The MIU communicates with the WMD using Radio Frequency and enables the consumer to view current credit limit, meter status, battery status and to input STS tokens. As an STS device the WMD shut-off valve will close to stop the flow of water once credit is exhausted.
