How to Add Credit via SMS to a Sub-Meter
When internet access to the Prepaid Meters website is not possible, landlords can Add Credit to a meter by sending an SMS.
This method of adding credit to a meter is only available to landlords and will only work when the SMS received originates from the Cell number of the Landlord that was defined at registration of the meter. All other requests will be automatically rejected.
To perform a meter credit with the landlords registered cell number:
- Write a text message containing the following string:
Replace <meterNo> with the number of the meter to be credited.
Replace <amount> with the value in Rands (no decimals) to be credited to the meter.
- Send the message to 31696.
- You will receive back an SMS to confirm the credit.
If the meter account is in overdraft, then the Current Available Credit will be the remainder after the meter is credited. For example, if a meter is -40.00 and a landlord performs a Meter Credit of 60 the Current Available Balance will be 20.
If you are the owner of the meter and you receive a message saying that your cell number is not that of the registered owner/landlord, then you will need to login to the Prepaid meters website and perform an Update Owner request from the User Menu.
THIS SERVICE IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO YOU IF YOU ARE SELF MANAGING YOUR METER. IF YOUR METERS REVENUE COLLECTION MANAGEMENT IS OUTSOURCED THIS SERVICE WILL NOT RESPOND.
