How to Add Credit and Vend Token via SMS |

When internet access to the Prepaid Meters website is not possible, landlords can simultaneously Add Credit to a meter and generate a 20-digit credit token by sending an SMS.
This method of adding credit to a meter is only available to landlords and will only work when the SMS received originates from the Cell number of the Landlord that was defined at registration of the meter. All other requests will be automatically rejected.
To perform a meter credit with the landlords registered cell number:
- Write a text message containing the following string:
<meterNo>*credit*<amount>
Replace <meterNo> with the number of the meter to be credited.
Replace <amount> with the value in Rands (no decimals) to be credited to the meter.
- Send the message to 31696.
- You will receive back an SMS to confirm the credit.
- The message will also contain a Token number to the value credited.
- Enter theToken number to the meter.
What is happening here is that an Account Credit is performed and then a Credit Vend transaction for the same amount. If the account is in arrears, such as can be the case when a Daily Blocked Limit is in place and the meter account is in overdraft, then the Token generated will be less than the Credited amount by the value of the arrears.As a result if the value of the Account Credit is equal to or less than the value of the overdraft, a token will not be generated at all.
THIS SERVICE IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO YOU IF YOU ARE SELF MANAGING YOUR METER. IF YOUR METERS REVENUE COLLECTION MANAGEMENT IS OUTSOURCED THIS SERVICE WILL NOT RESPOND.
If you are the owner of the meter and you receive a message saying that your cell number is not that of the registered owner/landlord, then you will need to login to the Prepaid meters website and perform an Update Owner request from the User Menu.
